Taranaki stablemates on trial for Brisbane

Special correspondent Wellington New Plymouth stablemates, Poetic Prince and Sir Zeus, are on trial for trips to Brisbane when they contest the two feature races at the Foxton Racing Club's meeting at Foxton tomorrow. Poetic Prince is the likely favourite for the $20,000 Shifnal Prince Juvenile, '’formerly known as the Triton Stakes, while Sir Zeus tackles the $15,000 Foxton ; Fries Cup. Poetic Prince, by the Australian sire 'Yeats, has created a big impression in his two starts to date. He was just beaten in his debut at Ellerslie on April 18 and then scored most impressively at Trentham on May 2. j Toughest opposition is likely to come from the Rotorua-trained Judge and Jury and the topweight, Satisfy. Sir Zeus, which will be aimed at the Queensland Derby if he goes to Bris-

bane, looks well-placed to race boldly in the Foxton Fries Cup. He is on the minimum with just 49 kilos and two recent races should have him close to peak. He showed good form back in the spring when he won the Hawke’s Bay Guineas. He faces a useful field, though, and Silver Elm, if she races will be very tough. She won well at Trentham on May 2 and just found the going too heavy when second at Awapuni on Wednesday. She is another being considered for a Brisbane trip and victory here would probably confirm it. Diastena has improved markedly in recent weeks and is a last start winner of the Feilding Cup, while Delarenne could be just about ready to strike form. The double will be completed with the N.Z. Insurance Handicap in which Call it Quits makes most appeal. La Pomme and Shannon could be the dangers.
