Jury finds man guilty

A commercial carver was found guilty of possessing cannabis for sale after a 5 >4-hour retirement by a District Court jury last evening. Judge' Sheehan remanded Steve Davis, aged 35, in custody to Friday for sentence. He said a probation officer’s report on Davis had been written “comparatively recently” about another matter.

Davis (Mr Nigel Hampton) had pleaded not guilty to a charge of possessing cannabis for sale in October. Opening for the Crown, Mr Brent Stanaway said that on October 14 last year the police had gone to Davis’s house in Addington, which was being renovated, and found a cardboard wine box containing cannabis and 11

deal bags weighing 276 g. He said the police also found a set of scales and plastic bags and ties. He said that under the house the police found 13 more deal bags Mr Hampton said in summing up there was nothing to show that the cannabis was in Davis’s control or custody.
