Army builds boatshea for school

PA Blenheim A project aimed at sharpening the Army’s building skills is providing a new boatshed for the Outward Bound school at Anakiwa, in the Marlborough Sounds. Members of 3 Field Squadron at Burnham Military Camp have demolished and are rebuilding the school's old boatshed. Ten men are involved. The construction was inspected by the Chief of General Staff, General John Mace. He said the Army was happy to provide help with community projects where it could. It gave Army personnel experience. “From their point of view it is good value, as it is from the community point of view as well,” he said. General Mace said, however, there might be a curb on such projects in future with the spread of the user-pays philosophy. Advertisement
