New oil plan
A new $lO million oil drilling operation is due to start off the south Taranaki coast. Rig tenders Smit-Lloyd 104 and Smit-Lloyd 105 arrived in Port Taranaki in preparation for towing the giant jack-up rig JFP Eleven to licence area PPL 38116 off the coast from Hawera. It will drill the Kupe South-2 well near the potentially commercial Kupe South-1 well. Partners in the programme include TransCanada Pipelines Resources, Ltd, which has a 40 per cent share; National Petroleum, 31 per cent; Ministry of Energy, 11 per cent; rig owners Alpha JFP Energy Inc. 10 per cent;
