Appeal rejected
PA Auckland An appeal against the Matamata Breeders’ Stakes winner, Noble Times, by Jim Campin, the owner-trainer of the fourth-placed Jennifer Rush, was rejected yesterday by a sub-committee of the Waikato District Committee. Campin claimed the chances of Jennifer Rush were affected early in the Matamata race on February 14 when Noble Times moved inward.
On raceday, a protest by Carnpin against Noble Times was dismissed by the judicial committee. The committee acknowledged, however, that some interference took place and Greg Childs, the rider of Noble Times, was fined $5OO.
At the hearing yesterday the sub-committee, in dismissing the appeal, ordered the $2OO appeal fee to be forfeited. Costs of $4OO were awarded against Campin. Placings in the Matamata Breeders’ Stakes remain as Noble Times first, Tasman Dancer second, Echorina third and Jennifer Rush fourth.
