Courier Bay prepares for Sydney race
PA New Plymouth Courier Bay will be out to redeem his reputation in the Canterbury Stakes (1200 m in Sydney on Saturday. The Taranaki speedster failed on a wet track for the Futurity Stakes in Meibourne late last month, and will need to put up a performance more in keeping with his ability on Saturday to get back on side with an Australian racing public bemused by his failure to figure in the major sprints in Brisbane last winter.
Trainer Geoff White, of Inglewood, said that the
wet track caused his failure in the Futurity and that he would need firm footing if he was to recapture his best form in Sydney. The pair arrived in Sydney last Friday. “The horse has settled in well in a big paddock,” White said of the Richmond property, where Courier Bay is stabled, which has its own 1600 m training track. "Courier Bay will be doing all his training right here.”
New Zealand jockey David Walsh will ride Courier Bay in the Canterbury Stakes.
