Te Maori programme
Craft demonstrations, art exhibitions, and lectures will be held in conjunction with Te Maori exhibition this week. Cultural performances will be held outside the Robert McDougall Art Gallery throughout today after the dawn opening ceremony of Te Maori exhibition. From tomorrow, the following events will take place: Sunday, March 15: Canterbury Museum, Nga taonga o te Waipounamii. 1 p.m.: McDougall Gallery, Lecture, “History of the Ngaitahu People” by Tipene O’Reagan. 2.30 p.m.: C.S.A. Gallery, Maori Art Today exhibition opens.
Monday, March 16: 10 a.m. to noon: Canterbury Museum (Pacific Hall), kitemaking demonstration with K. Johanni, 2.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.: Children’s activities, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: C.S.A. Gallery, Maori Art Today exhibition, 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. Museum, Nga taonga o te Waipounamu. Tuesday, March 17:
10 a.m. to noon: Museum, kite-making with K. Johanni,
1 p.m. to 3 p.m.: Raranga (flax weaving) with C. Brown. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.: Nga taonga o te Waipounamu. 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. CS.A. Gallery, Maori Art Today exhibition. Wednesday: March 18: 10 a.m. to 12 noon: Museum, kite-making, 1 p.m. to 1.30 p.m. Cultural performance by the Wainoni School group. 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.: Museum, Nga taonga o te Waipounamu. 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. C.S.A. Maori Art Today. 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.: Children’s activities. Thursday, March 19: 10 a.m. to noon: Museum, kite-making, 10 a.m. to 2.30 p.m.: Net and hinaki making with M. Te Koeti. 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.: Nga taonga o te Waipounamu. 10 a.m. to 4.30 p.m.: C.S.A. Gallery, Maori Art Today. 1.30 p.m. to 3.30 p.m.: Children’s activities.
