Homes uninhabitable
PA Whakatane Twenty-seven homes, mostly in Edgecumbe and Te Teko, are unsuitable for living in because of earthquake damage, Whakatane district council inspectors have found. The exception is a pole house in Whakatane. The council’s chief inspector, Mr Peter .Day, said II of the houses
would be demolished. The rest either had serious structural defects or had been declared unsuitable for habitation because of health hazards. People would be able to return to those homes once repairs had been made and the health problems after the big March 2 earthquake were resolved, he said.
