Door opened after horse had bolted
NZPA-AP New York A woman has won an out-of-court settlement for SUSB7SO ($15,575) from a transport authority and a stable after a horse” crashed through the back door of a city bus and took a seat next to her. Mindy Gilbert, aged 29, of New York City, was sitting in a bus in August, 1982, when Mario, an angry horse, barged through the back doors.
Gilbert said she was knocked over, and her neck, back and right shoulder were injured. She sued the Manhattan • and Bronx Surface Transit Operating Authority, a bus company, and Chateau Stables, which owned the horse, charging negligence and claiming SUSI million ($1.78 million). The defendants have agreed to settle by paying Ms Gilbert $NZ15,575 without admitting liability. The horse, which had been pulling a carriage, had broken away and gone beserk. After the incident, the horse was sent to a stud farm in Pennsylvania.
