Tenants given security
The ownership of Forest Service houses will be transferred to the Forestry Corporation on April 1, 1987. Mr Palmer said that from that date' the corporation would be responsible for the houses and would provide security of tenancy for 13 months from March 1, 1987, to April 1, 1988. Existing terms and conditions of tenancies would
continue and existing tenants would be given i first right of refusal for 1 purchase should the cor- < poration decide to sell the 1 property on site or for 1 removal, he said. Occiipants would have 1 access to Housing Corporation rental or lending assistance under normal ' criteria, with some flexi- ’ bllity for mortgage finance.
• The Minister of Housing, Mr Goff, said this measure had been designed to take away any threat of losing a home over the next 13 months while affected families were reviewing their options. “It will give them time to think without pressure what job they want and where they want to live,” he said.
