Call for solvent abuse survey
Solvent abuse should be studied in an anonymous survey among schoolchildren, according to members of the Federated Farmers Women’s Division who met at Waipara. Members will ask their Dominion councillors to check on the feasibility of conducting the survey. A conference spokesman said it was important to find out why children sniffed petrol, glue, and solvents. More than 200 Women’s Division members from Canterbury, North Canter-
bury, Hurunui, MidCanterbury and South Canterbury districts attended the conference. They were addressed by a Christchurch woman whose son died from petrol-sniffing six months ago. The conference also heard a warning from a rural policeman that country people should be careful when they let houses, because drugusers were moving from the cities into rural areas. The conference raised $451 for the Oxford fire relief fund.
