Worser Bay likely venue for police triathlon

PA Wellington Wellington’s Worser Bay will be the venue for the inaugural national police triathlon championships later this year. The third annual Wellington police triathlon was held there on Tuesday. The national event is set down for late November or early December, and there are also

plans to run it with a national combined services triathlon. The race was won by Steve Farrell (Police College) who beat one of the favourites, David Curtis (Taranaki Street). Rhys Heatley was third. Farrell’s winning time was an impressive 2h 09m 03s, more than two minutes ahead of Curtis. It was also faster than the time recorded by the winning team — the Search and Rescue trio of Dan O’Connell, Steve Fitzgerald and Craig

Cameron who finished in 2h 10m 13s. Rosemary Gibson (National H.Q.) was the leading woman, her time of 2h 30m 53s putting her 13th over all. Peter Hill (Dog Squad) won the over-30s in 2h 26m 235, and Snow Pratt, the over-all winner last year, took the ovdr-40s, and came fifth over all, with a time of 2h 19m 06s. Entries totalled 76 — the field last year was 62. Each individual had to swim I.skm around Worser Bay, cycle 40km from Worser Bay to Miramar Wharf to Island Bay and back, and run 10km from Worser Bay to Shelly Bay and back.
