Solomons barge capsizes

Only two people are known to have survived after a small barge with 49'people aboard sank in the Solomon Islands, an Official at the Australian High Commission in Honiara said yesterday. The vessel “Vula,” belonging to an Australian timber company, was on its way from Honiara to Isabel Island, about 80km away, when it capsized in bad weather last ' Thursday night
The official said there were conflicting reports on the numbers of people still adrift in liferafts.
The latest information from marine officials coordinating the search indicated that one liferaft had sunk while another carrying five women and seven children aboard was still unsighted.
Two survivors from the liferaft that sank were washed up on Ndai Island on Sunday morning and told officials of the other liferaft.
