Smart work from Commanding Officer
Special correspondent Palmerston North Commanding Officer worked smartly the reverse way at Woodville yesterday morning. He is an acceptor for Waipukurau, but may start instead in a class three 1200 m race at Avondale on Saturday, providing he has a reasonable draw. Fast work took place on the plough. Commanding Officer led Bemadino after they ran 800 m in 48.35, the last 600 m in 35.25. Commanding Officer has speed to bum, as he showed in winning two of his four races to date. He should be tough wherever he lines up. Bernadino is in the Wanganui Motors 10,000 at Wanganui on Saturday. Palliser also went the reverse way, going well
on the inside of Tilbury Docks over 1000 m in 1:3.85, the last 600 m in 37.15. He ran out when tried on his own, but was better with a companion. Palliser, which shows much staying promise, is nominated for the Championship Stakes at Avondale.
Going the left-handed way, Secret Seal was travelling easily over 1000 m in 1:6.95, the last 600 m in 40s. The Chalmers Stakes at Trentham is on his programme. Mink ’n Pearls and Miss Sigma ran 800 m in 52.95, the last 600 m in 38.35. Mink ’n Pearls failed at Woodville, but gets another chance in the final event at Wanganui. Flight to Reno ran 1400 m in 1:30.65. He was joined by Memsie on the last 1000 m in 1:1.4s and
the final 600 m in 37.35. This was good work by Flight to Reno, an improver for the highweight at Wanganui. Call Me Mister and Just a Rumour galloped 1400 m in 1:31.65, the last 1200 m in 18.6 s and the final 600 m in 37.25. They are fit for Wanganui.
