Keen competition expected in classic

Keen competition is expected again this year in the annual Laser Boulder Bay Classic 16km road running race on March 7. Support from Laser Sports and toe backing of Goldie Mason's Sporting Adventures has enabled the Sumner Running Club to provide prizes worth $2OOO.

The major prizes will be air tickets to toe winning male and female runner to go to Auckland and'compete in toe Laser Gutbuster 25km

race later this year. The Boulder Bay Classic is on a scenic course starting from Cave Rock, following the road up Evans Pass and along Godley Head Road and to a farm track down to Scarborough. and back to Cave Rock.

The race will start at 2 p.m. and is open to registered and non-registered runners, all of whom are eligible tor spot prizes. There is a teams' section for running clubs, and a special team section for unregistered runners belonging to other organisations or dubs. The men’s record is 51 min

31s set by Don Greig (New Brighton) test year, while Wellington’s Ngaire Drake holds the women's record of 61:41, set in 1984.

The other titleholders, apart from Greig, are Andy Dennis (veteran men), Marie Stokes (veteran women) and Anna Warren (women). Dennis and Stokes set veteran records, with times of 57:0£»and 67:30 respectively, last year.
