Police disarm swordsman
A man with a sword caused damage to an Avonside house last evening and then presented an air pistol at the police before being disarmed. The man entered a
Hanmer Street property brandishing a sword and then pulled out the pistol when the police arrived about 7.40 p.m. A police spokesman said that the incident was
over quickly and the armed offenders squad was not called out. No-one was hurt in the incident. A man in his late 20s is expected to appear in the District Court today
