New lamb slow

PA Wellington Sales of new season's New Zealand lamb were almost at a halt in Britain because five importers were clearing the eld seasph’s product, which was in good demand, said the New Zealand Meat Producers Board in its weekly market report. On the Smithfield market, old season’s New Zealand PL grade lambs were quoted at $3.71 to $3.84 a kg, and new season's PLsiwere quoted at $3.96 to $4.05 a kg. Domestic lamb prices dropped 2p a pound and domestic new season's lambs Increased 20p. a pound at live auction. New lamb was available in very small quantities and the trade was described as mediocre. The meat trade at both wholesale add retail was still extremely slow. Beef demand had improved, , mainly because of an improved export trade. Poultry continued to remain in Constant demand because of its attractive prices. Both the United States domestic and imported beef markets had a good week, with prices much firmer than last week. Domestic prices were up about US6c to US7c and this helped improve prices for imported beef. Explanations for the rise in the market varied among traders, but none were certain that the new prices would be maintained. Imported bull beef was quoted at $3.91 a kg c.i.f., up 4 cents a pound and imported cow beef was quoted at $3.81 a kg c.i.L, up 6 cents a pound.
