Fellowship awarded
PA Wellington The office solicitor at the Department of Maori Affairs, Mr Whaimutu Dewes, has been awarded a Harkness Fellowship. Mr Dewes, aged 33, has confirmed that he has the award but was unwilling to elaborate until an official announcement has been made. He expects to take the award in August. Harkness Fellowships are financed by the Commonwealth Fund, an American Foundation established in New York in 1918, and are awarded annually for 12 to 21 months study and travel in the United States. A maximum of five fellows from New Zealand and Australia are chosen each year.
