Confidence shaken
PA Wellington Inconsistent performances in Australia and against Pakistan in their most recent test series seem to have dented the seemingly unshakeable confidence of the West Indies, said New Zealand’s cricket manager, Glenn Turner, yesterday. Mr Turner was in Australia last weekend to play in a charity match between Rest of the World and Australian teams of former test players in Melbourne. While there, he watched the West Indies in their day-night World Series
Cup match against England last Friday. Although the ’ West Indies needed just 148 to win — and lost just four wickets in getting the runs — Turner said he saw encouraging signs for New Zealand, which begins its three-test series with the West Indies on February 20 at the Basin Reserve. .. Before going to Australia, the West Indies drew . their three-match series in Pakistan. They lost the first test of that series, being humbled in their second innings , for only 53, their lowest ever test total.
