Jones scores unbeaten 163
PA Wellington The Wellington batsman, Andrew Jones, reached the highest point in his eight-season firstclass cricket career when he scored an unbeaten 163 as his side beat Otago in a Shell Trophy match at the Basin Reserve yesterday. But it’s unlikely he’ll remember the knock as one of his greatest innings, despite it being only his second first-class century. His first was an
unbeaten 102 for Otago against Wellington in a drawn match on the same ground two years ago. Yesterday’s tally was something of a gift for the 29-year-old who took his season’s tally to 522 runs at an average of 58 — helped considerably by the fact that in 11 Shell Trophy innings, Wellington has not once been bowled out. Wellington has retained its playing 12 going into the last match.
