The Department of Radiology comprises 9 rooms equipped with modern equipment including some special procedures rooms designed to theatre specifications. There is an Ultrasound Suite which is currently being upgraded to contain the best equipment available. A SIEMENS DR3O CT Scanner was installed and commenced functioning in April 1986 and has been working to full capacity since then. The Department is responsible for various mobile units located at key points throughout the hospital. There is a full Nuclear Medicine Department in an adjacement block with scope for clinical collaboration between the two departments. Provision exists for advancement on merit to higher gradings within range $70,900 — $87,500 p.a. The appointee will have direct responsibility for the Alcohol and Drug Detoxification Unit, which is a nine-bed ward at Palmerston North Hospital.
