East-Shirley clinches fifth twilight crown
East-Christchurch Shirley has won “The Press” twilight cricket competition for the fifth year in a row.
The club clinched the title when the A side had an easy 83-run win over its B side in the final round on Monday evening. The previous joint leader, Marist; faltered at the last hurdle, losing to St Albans A by just five runs. Player-of-the-match awards went to D. Braid (Port Hills), R. Petrie (Sydenham), R. Haglund (Supporters), G. Hooper (East-Shirley A), K. Thomas (Marist).
Thomas was named player of the week after his double □f 29 runs and four wickets
for 11 runs. Final points: East-Shirley A 123, Marist 114, St Albans A 112, Supporters 110, Sydenham 96, Southern Districts 88, East-Shirley B 81, Port Hills 76, St Albans B 68, High School Old Boys 62.
