“Kiwi Magic” comes home to New Zealand next week, and Christchurch is included in a celebration tour. The crew members of KZS and KZ7, the syndicate director, Michael Fay, and the sailing directors will all be in Christchurch on Saturday, February 14.
The Christchurch visit is part of a tour of the four main centres.
The Auckland welcome, on Thursday, February
12, will include a tickertape parade up Queen Street, followed by a mayoral reception in Aotea Square. Later the same day there will be a formal welcome by the commodore and members of the challenging club, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron.
The Government and Bank of New Zealand official welcomes are planned for Wellington on the Friday, as well-as a lunch-time motorcade. The crews will visit Dunedin and Christchurch
on February 14, but details of the visit have yet to be confirmed.
Speaking from Fremantle yesterday, Mr Fay said, “The team are anxious to pay tribute to as many New Zealanders as possible. Almost immediately afterwards, the group will break up and go on to other international sailing events.
“After such a long campaign offshore it will be great to be back in New Zealand among so many friends and supporters,” he said.
