‘Gatting’ retires
NZPA-AAP Melbourne “Gatting” the pig has retired after his sensational debut at the Melbourne Cricket Ground. The romping animal gained plenty of attention when he was released on to the ground during Sunday’s World Series Cup cricket match between Australia and England. Written on his side was the name of the English captain, Mike Gatting. Slipping past groundsmen and officials, he had
a good look at the field before surrendering to the Australian all-rounder, Greg Matthews. Yesterday, Gatting w?<? in the care of the R.S.P.C.A., a spokesman saying that the animal appeared none the worse for his sporting debut and was now living in a wildlife shelter. As he is a wild pig, he could not be taken to a farm, and after quarantine would probably be released.
