Intimidation’ details wanted
The Minister of Employment, Mr Burke, has asked for details of alleged police intimidation during the investigation into contract work schemes in Christchurch. The allegations were made in an open letter sent to Mr Burke by Christchurch’s group employment liaison scheme officers, Messrs Peter Vink and Tamaha Waretini. A spokeswoman for Mr Burke’s office said the Minister had called for
specific details and would not make any public comment until conferring further with Messrs Vink and Waretini.
The head of the Christchurch Criminal Investigation Bureau, Detective Superintendent lan Holyoake, has rejected the allegations as “absurd” and without foundation. Messrs Vink and Waretini were unavailable for comment on the Minister’s reaction to the open letter.
