Clothing award rise settled

PA Wellington The clothing workers’ award was settled yesterday with a 7 per cent increase on wages and allowances and an agreement to further discuss hours of work. The conciliator, Gerry Ditchfield, said there had been no other significant changes to the award. Talks were adjourned late last year and the union threatened industrial action, saying employers had made an ordinary wage offer conditional on acceptance of significant changes to the

award. The union accused the employers of attacking the eight-hour day normal working hours and overtime. The hours of work issues will now be discussed during the term of the award. The dispute, which affected some trustee savings banks before Christmas, is continuing. The Central Clerical Union organised a meeting of Wellington trustee bank delegates last evening to' discuss the claim for wage parity with trading bank workers.
