Fraud unit corruption complaint
PA Auckland The Justice Department is Investigating allegations of corruption made against its Auck-land-based corporate fraud unit. The allegations have been-brought against the unit by an Auckland man, Mr Stephen James Bird, who in 1984 was convicted and fined SIOM for obtaining money by false pretences. The Secretary for Justice, Mr David Oughton, has confirmed that the investigation . into * a “number of specific complaints” was under way, but that the department', did not think there was a . ease to answer.
However, any such complaints had to be investigated by the department, he said.
