Exports ban bid
PA Wellington Three top officials from the World Society, for the Protection of Animals will come to New Zealand early next month to attempt to persuade the Government to ban the live export of sheep. The society’s president, Mr John Hoyt, its direc-tor-general, Mr Trevor Scott, and the regional director, Mr Colin Platt, will arrive in Auckland on February 6 and will be in
Wellington on February 9. They plan to have talks with Government officials and the Minister of Agriculture, Mr Moyle. So fat the Live Sheep Export Committee has approved the export of 900,000 sheep for the year to October, 1987, which is the quota set by the Government. Federated Farmers is lobbying to have the quota, if not removed, then at least increased.
