Yallop boosts chances

NZPA-Reuter . East London Graham Yallop staked his claim to a place in the rebel Australian “test” cricket side with a fine 160 not ut which put the tourists in a commanding position against a South African Invitation XI. When bad light stopped play 20 minutes early on the second day of a three-day match, the Australians were 294 for six in their first innings.

This gave them a 129-nin lead over an Invitation XI comprising some of South Africa’s most talented young cricketers, who were skittled out the previous day for 165. Yallop made a slow start but grew in stature throughout the day. His 150, which took 364 minutes and included 17 fours, boosted his chances of being picked for the third unofficial “test” against the Springboks in Durban after being left out of the first two internationals.
