Stabbing charges unlikely
Charges were unlikely to be laid against anyone in connection with a stabbing in Papanui on Thursday because the victim has refused to make a complaint, the police said yesterday. Brian Mathew Latta, aged 39, staggered into Featherstone’s dairy, at the corner of Harewood Road and Harris Crescent, with three stab wounds.
Mr Latta was reported to be in a fairly comfortable condition in Princess Margaret Hospital last evening. He was seen by detectives for a second time yesterday morning and again would not co-oper-ate. “We have wound down the inquiry because pf a lack of assistance from the complainant (Mr Latta),” said Detective
Sergeant John Lyall, of the Papanui C. 1.8. Two men and a woman have been spoken to by the police in connection the stabbing. They are aged in their 20s. The police say that they do not seek anyone else in connection with the incident Detective Sergeant Lyall said that the police would talk to Mr Latta again.
