‘Jet lag cure close’
NZPA staff correspondent London British scientists believe an instant cure to jet lag could be available in a few years, “The Times” newspaper reports. Tests on volunteer transatlantic travellers who took a pill containing melatonin, a natural substance produced in the brain, had returned a 100 per cent success rate, it said. The scientists, from Surrey University, found that supplements of melatonin can overcome the symptoms which disrupt the sleep and behaviour of long distance air travellers. According to “The Times” their work has already attracted the interest of airlines anxious to protect their staff from the effects of jetlag. They believe also that the commercial potential is enormous.
