Arpac herd growth
PA Wellington Arpac International, Ltd, said it now has more than 17,000 fibre-producing goats within its Australasian structure. Mohair, cashgora and the new addition of cashmere producing animals are now based predominantly in Australia, said the general manager, Mr Paul Plummer. The purchase of 814 quality cashmere producing goats is Arpac’s first step toward the world demand for the classic cashmere fibre. Arpac has also acquired an 80 per cent interest in the Rototawai Angora goat partnership — a total of 876 does and 212 bucks from the Australian Andeer and Wilbertree Studs. The New Zealand angora and cashmere goat embryo transfer venture is due to begin in mid-February with 2000 transplants being undertaken at Arpac’s Rototawai complex in the Wairarapa.
