Under-19 softballers bow out
The Canterbury under-19 girls’ softball team lost to Auckland, l-Q, in the semifinal round pf the national under-19 tournament played in Auckland yesterday. Canterbury out-batted Auckland, 6-3, making only one error compared with Auckland's three, yet, in spite of this, had difficulty scoring a secure ran over the home plate. :
It was a close, exciting game, in which both teams displayed tight pitching and solid fielding. In a game to decide the third and fourth place-getters, Canterbury lost to Wellington, 10-0, after five innings. Forty trialists have been selected from . this tournament, some of whom will travel to the United States in July to compete in the under--19 World Series. Four are from Canterbury — Helen Townsend, Mandy Karatau, Bridget Smitheran and Christine Stuart.
