Wellington calls up young paceman for Levin game
PA . Levin Wellington has called up the young fast bowler, David Molony, to replace the injured Jonathon Millmow for its Shell Trophy match against Central Districts which starts at Levin today. Millmow aggravated a groin strain against Canterbury on Thursday and is unavailable for the match. That clears the way for a second appearance by Molony who made his firstclass debut last season against Auckland, claiming two for 75 in a high-scoring match. Wellington will face a Central Districts side buoyed by its first round success against Northern. Districts. It is coleader of the competition
with Otago. The Levin Park Domain pitch is very hard, promising plenty of runs, and the captain winning the toss is likely to bat. Central Districts will again be looking for runs from its top order. The opening stands of Tony Blain and John Smith were a vital factor in the triumph over Northern. Central is capable of big totals with batsmen to follow of the calibre of Martin Crowe, Mark Greatbatch, Scott Briasco and the freescoring lan Smith. The Wellington side, led by Robert Vance, also has real depth in its batting, as was evidenced by the display against Canterbury. The batting skills of Jeremy Coney, Bruce Edgar,
Evan Gray and Ervin McSweeney plus the talented Tim Ritchie, Andrew Jones and Gavin Larsen should give the Central Districts bowlers, spearheaded by Derek Stirling and Gary Robertson, plenty of headaches. Wellington’s attack is also potent with Paul Allott, Ewen Chatfield and Evan Gray on call. The teams are.— Central Districts: (from) M. Crowe (captain), J. Smith, T. Blain, M. Greatbatch, S. Briasco, I. Smith, S. Duff, D. Stirling, G. Robertson, W. Martin, P. Unwin, C. Crafar. Wellington: (from) R. Vance (captain), B. Edgar, A. Jones, T. Ritchie, J. Coney, E. Gray, E. McSweeney, G. Larsen, R. Verry, E. Chatfield, D. Molony, P. Allott
