Sweden seek Winter Games
NZPA-Reuter Stockholm Sweden’s Olympic Committee has formally proposed Are and Ostersund as. the combined site of the 1994 Winter Olympics. Sweden’s bid to host the 1992 Winter Olympics at Falun and Are received almost no support because of the split location and was rejected by the International Olympic Committee last October in favour of the French resort of Albertville. After its poor showing, Falun voted against launching a new bid for the 1994 games. Are is Scandinavia's largest downhill ski - resort and has hosted several World Cup events. Ostersund is a town of 40,000 about 100 km west of Are.
