The economy

Sir,—When Labour took over two and a half years ago most thinking people realised that stern, courageous measures were needed to our economy.

Several highly unpopular measures taken should have been introduced long ago. Since then we have all suffered devaluation of our currency and record increases in the taxes on petrol, postal services, electricity rates, household services, etc., and GST Every conceivable form of taxation has been. accompanied by severe pruning of public services with what result? Incredibly, not only has our national debt increased to over two billion dollars, but we are also told to expect another wage round, further tax increases in petrol, postal charges, electricity, etc. Pruning worth-while television programmes has left us with little to enthuse over, Cabinet portfolios undoubtedly need administrators with previous, successful experience and a realistic vision of our country’s needs. Our education, finance and social services are singularly lacking. — Yours, etc.,
