Dogs on beaches
Sir,—Why are the laws not, enforced with regard to dogs on beaches? There are signs to say “No dogs allowed” but who takes any notice? Laws are not made to be broken but upheld. When I paid a visit to Taylors Mistake there were at least eight dogs running around near young children and crawling babies. The sand was polluted with their excrement and flies abounded. Is not the health and comfort of people more important? There are wide stretches of beach where dog owners can take their dogs and not be a nuisance to anyone. Something must be done to stop this invasion of relaxation and I would ask that the council officials do something immediately before the holiday season is in full swing. Even the smaller suburban beaches in Sydney are cleaned daily, but how often during the year does the council attend to the beaches around Christchurch?—Yours, etc.,
MARY E. KINNAIRD. December 29, 1986.
