Cabinet on holiday
PA Wellington Affairs of State will be entrusted to a handful of "duty Ministers” from today as members of the Cabinet leave for their summer holidays.
The Minister of Labour, Mr Rodger, who is said by his office to be “holidaying in Wellington,” seems to bear the brunt of the country’s helmsmanship. He is officially on duty 11
.ie . officially on duty ai. through Christmas and
New Year until January 4. But for most of that time he will be accompanied by other Ministers.
The Prime Minister, Mr Lange, is due to put in a few days work in Wellington between now and the end of the holidays about January 19. The first Cabinet meeting of 1987 will be on January 20.
The sorts of Christmas activities envisaged by Ministers range from a spot of gardening and redecorating in his Christchurch home for the Min-
ister of Trade and Industry, Mr Caygill, to a Wanganui River canoe trip for the Minister of Customs, Mrs Shields.
Mr Lange, who managed a short break on Great Barrier Island last week, will visit the Chatham Islands, compete in a motor race, and after the first Cabinet meeting will visit Rarotonga with his family.
