Bombing charges

Three men facing charges of murder arising out of a fatal truck bombing at Sockbum were remanded until February' when a deposition date will be fixed.

In the district court yesterday, Judge Frampton remanded the three men in custody until February 2.

They are: Norman Patrick Kingsford, aged 39, a labourer (Mr B. S. Collin); and Bruce Allan Rooke, aged 22, a computer technician (Mr P. H. B. Hall).

A third man, represented by Mr G. A. Cowley, was granted continued interim suppression of his name. Each of the accused is charged with the murder of Denis Murray Drinkwater on February 18.

The death of Mr Drinkwater, aged 40, an ownerdriver of a rubbish truck, led to one of the biggest murder investigations in New Zealand.

Rooke is additionally charged with wilfully damaging a power pole near Ruapuna Park, with an explosive, on February 1 and stealing a $2OOO car the property of Albert Heaton Savin, on February 24. Charges of presenting an air gun at a detective sergeant, and with resisting the sergeant, on December 11, have also been laid against Rooke. IMPORTING CHARGE March 2 has been set down for depositions to be taken on a charge laid against three women of importing a class C controlled drug, Buprenorphine, which police say had a street value of $9OOO.

They are: Aileen Mary

Heremaha, aged 40, a housewife, and Phillipa Radley, aged 26, a barmaid, both of Dunedin.

A woman, aged 77, of Christchurch, was granted interim suppression of her name by Mr Justice Tipping in the High Court at lunchtime. The three women were arrested at Christchurch Airport after arriving by an Air New Zealand flight from Los Angeles and Fiji. The arrests were the result of combined work by the police and Customs. RECALLED A man who appeared on a breach of parole was returned to prison to serve the rest of a 12month prison term. He is Kenneth Hunter Georgeson, aged 26. The application to have the defendant recalled to serve out his sentence was made by the Probation service.

Earlier in the week, Georgeson said he had received early release from prison on condition that he report to an alcohol recovery centre. At the centre a person he spoke to gave him the night off for a “blow out.”

He said he returned the day after to be told he was not wanted. INDECENCY CHARGES

Interim suppression of name was granted to a man, aged 40, facing charges of indecently assaulting two girls, under 12, and having sexual intercourse with one of them. The defendant is charged with committing the offences over the last six years. He was remanded in custody until Boxing Day.
