Coast Forestry appointment
The Forestry Corporation will appoint a district manager for the West Coast who will assess staffing for the corporation in the region. The Minister of State Services, Mr Rodger, and the member of Parliament for West Coast, Mr Kerry Burke, announced yesterday that the corporation would act in the region. The district manager will be appointed before the end of the month and will complete a full study of the corporation’s activities and staffing needs. The corporation has to report to Cabinet by the end of January.
Messrs Burke and Rodger welcomed the corporation’s decision to be involved in the region. The decision would help resolve the uncertainty during recent months about the corporation’s involvement on the West Coast. The Ministers noted, however, that a decision on the level of involvement had still to be made. The Government’s acceptance of the Blakely agreement in November had clearly defined the land available. If the land had not be defined the corporation could not have made its decision, they said.
