British league coach to quit
NZPA-AFP Leeds Maurice Bamford, coach of the Great Britain rugby league side whitewashed by the Australians recently, is to quit at the end of the season. The former Leeds boss told the British R.L. man-
agement committee in Leeds yesterday that he would step down when his contract expires. Mr Bamford wants to spend more time with his wife, Rita, who has been ill for some time and he said his responsibilities at home prevented him from
giving 100 per cent concentration to the British job. “Obviously I am sad,” said Mr Bamford, who will be in charge of Britain for the last time when the Lions meet France in the New Year.
