Lewis to serve ban in Aust.
NZPA-AFP Wigan Wally Lewis, captain of the all-conquering 1986 Australian rugby league Kangaroos, has been allowed to serve his twomatch British ban in Australia before he joins the English side, Wigan, next month.
Originally, the British Rugby League’s disciplinary committee said that the suspension, which the Queensland star incurred during his short stay with Wakefield three years ago, had to be served on British soil. But a B.R.L. spokesman,
David Howes, said yesterday that “it makes no difference that he is spending his suspension period in Brisbane”. Lewis will now begin his three-month contract with the British first division club against Warrington on New Year’s Day.
