Generator given to St John
A diesel generator to provide emergency power has been given to the St John Ambulance centre by a retired Christchurch businessman. The centre is now seeking about $lO,OOO to install the generator, or electricians who would give their time to do the job. The three-kilowatt generator, worth about $l5OO, was given to the centre after reports that the control room had no emergency power during the two-hour power break on Tuesday morning. There was no lighting in the control room or staff quarters. Officers worked by torchlight to maintain the ambulance service.
