Dancing Brave the best

NZPA-AAP London Britain’s champion three-year-old Dancing Brave has been officially rated the “best horse to race in Europe” in the last ten years. In the International Classifications for Europe, a consensus of the opinions of the senior handicappers of Britain, Ireland and France, Dancing Brave was awarded a rating of 141, or lOst lib (64kg). This placed him a pound better than 1981 Derby winner Shergar, two pounds better than 1984 2000 Guineas winner and Derby runner-up El Gran Senor and seven pounds better than Shahrastani, the horse to which he finished second in this year’s Derby. Dancing Brave was successful in only one classic, the 2000 Guineas, but also won the Prix de I’Arc de Triomphe, the King George VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond Stakes and the Eclipse Stakes, all Group One events.

He ended his short career with a fourth placing in the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Santa Anita, California, in November and was retired to stud.
