Private nurses get rise
Private hospital nurses have gained a 6 per cent increase in wages and conditions in award talks which ended in Christchurch yesterday. Provision for holidays has been extended, fulltime workers qualifying for a fourth week of holidays after two years service. Part-time workers will qualify for a fourth week after five years and night workers will qualify for a fifth week after eight years service.
Sick leave provisions for part-time workers have been improved and a sexual harassment clause has been added. An industrial officer for the union, Mr Neville Taylor, said the settlement pleased the union in view of the existing economic conditions.
