Club holds wake
A wake was held on Wednesday evening at the headquarters of the Epitaph Riders Motor-cycle Club, in Lincoln Road, in honour of a former president who died after an accident at the week-end. Gang members from Auckland and Nelson also came to Christchurch to pay their last respects to Michael James McGillivray. Mr McGillivray, aged 31, was fatally injured while competing in a motor-cycle sidecar race at Ruapuna Speedway on Saturday evening.
He lost control of the motor-cycle he was riding coming out of a bend near the finish-line. His
machine and another collided.
Mr McGillivray was badly injured and died later in Christchurch Hospital. Two other men were hurt in'the accident. A funeral service for Mr McGillivray -was held at the Westpark Chapel, Wairakei Road, , on Wednesday afternoon. Mourners later returned to the Epitaph Riders’ headquarters, where a marquee had been erected. Death notices for Mr McGillivray were inserted by the Epitaph Riders Motor-cycle Club and the Nelson-based Lost Breed Motor-cycle Club.
