Lagerfeld ready for Trentham
Special correspondent Hastings Lagerfeld looked set to take on the open sprinters at the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting at Trentham tomorrow when he recorded another pleasing track gallop at Hastings yesterday morning. Fast work was carried out on the plough (easy) and No. 1 grass (firm). Lagerfeld (Heaney) worked with stablemate Cop Me (Liley) over 600 m on the plough. They were not after time but Lagerfeld finished three-quarters of a length in front of his partner, recording 38.65. He looks in peak condition and 1400 m at Trentham will suit him. Regular rider, Mark Heaney, has the ride.
Our Boyfriend (Cole) worked over a round at just a little faster than three-quar-ter pace as he rounded off his preparation for the first leg of the T.A.B. double at Wellington. He was timed
from the 1200 m in Imin 29.95, the last 600 m in 44.15. He is well and should be hard to beat. Mark Barnsley will ride the gelding again. Go Lady (Frethey), preparing for the Wanganui Jockey Club’s meeting on Tuesday, ended her work with a 600 m sprint in 37.85. She also looks well.
Noggin (Jones) sprinted 600 m on the plough in 36.75. This was the fastest of the morning and the six-year-old has not looked back since winning at Wanganui last Saturday. However, he is a doubtful starter at the Waipukurau Jockey Club’s meeting today according to his trainer, Davey Jones. Our Dash (Gregory), preparing for Waipukurau, ran 600 m on the No. 1 grass in 38.95.
Clive Queen (Gregory) and Lady Dinagh (Heaney) hit out strongly over 600 m on the No. 1 grass in 36.85, while Rabanne (Heaney) and Warm (Purdue) went quiety over 600 m on the plough in 39.45.
