Labelling of clothes
Sir, —The Ministry for Consumer Affairs has been established and its officers should have settled in by now and be ready for action. I hope that the Minister, Mrs Margaret Shields, can address the problem of getting clothing manufacturers and importers to state on labels of garments the exact nature of the material they consist of and its percentage of wool or synthetic fibre. This will protect those of us who are allergic to wool and. synthetics, but who have no way of knowing at present what material we are buying in many cases. Manufactured food products now have to have their ingredients listed because people have allergies. It is high time all garments and garment fabrics were similarly labelled for the same reason. — Yours, etc., TED HICKS. December 2
