Obituary Mr C.D. Smith
PA Hamilton A Hamilton Credit Union and community stalwart, Mr Colin Des'mond Smith, has died after a short illness. He was 55. Mr Smith was active in a wide range of business, education, church, entertainment and sporting organisations and activities, and was awarded the M.B.E. in 1977 for services to the community.
He was founder and leading member of the New Zealand Credit
Union League, serving as managing director and chief executive for many years.
Mr Smith also served on the World Council of Credit Unions.
He was deputy chairman of the Consumer Council and a fellow of both the Society of Accountants and the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators. He was made a Justice of the Peace in 1983.
Mr Smith is survived by his wife and four sons.
