Tigers flown to U.S. zoo
NZPA-Reuter Sydney Two Sumatran tigers, hand-raised at Sydney’s Taronga Zoo, have been flown to an American zoo under a world-wide conservation programme. Sinta, born in December, 1983, and Usha, born in March, 1985, were rejected by their mothers soon after birth and were raised by Taronga nursery keepers, a zoo official said.
“Both tiger cubs thrived on this special attention and are now healthy, mature youngsters ready to leave home and start families of their own,” he said.
Sumatran tigers are classified as an endangered species by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.
